Trekking in Kashmir India: The Kashmir valley is a lush green bowl 129 km long and 40 km wide surrounded by majestic mountains of North Indian Himalayas. In the southwest, the Pir Panjal rises at places to 5,000 meters. In the northeast, the valley is flanked by the Pangi range, the principal summits of which are Harmukh and Mahadeo. Both are close to the capital city of Srinagar. To the north is the majestic Ladakh range and the Lidder Valley, protected by the Kolahoi massif.The Kashmir Valley sits between two impressive mountain ranges of Himalayas: the Dhauladhar-Pir Panjal Range to the southwest and the Zanskar Range (or Great Himalayan Range) to the northeast. This unique location gives it a special place in the geology of the Himalayas, showcasing a full sequence of Cambro-Triassic rocks along with some Jurassic patches.

In the western part of the valley, you’ll find the Draba and Karnah mountain ranges, while the northeastern side is bordered by Hundwara Tehsil. To the southeast, the Kishtwar and Chamba areas are located. This diverse landscape makes the Kashmir Valley not only beautiful but also geologically fascinating!
